On the heels of several acclaimed hires, including Vice President of Data Science and AI Donnie Millar and Vice President of Finance Thom Keyes, the addition of subterranean phenom Dr. Phil to the team rounds out the executive den. In his role as Chief Scientist, Dr. Phil will be digging deep to integrate his uncannily accurate predictive weather insights into the Arturo platform. This enhancement adds a layer of continuity to ensure policyholders have the right coverage and carriers have the right tools, resources and capital in advance of weather events.

In a test run against a sample of a client’s policies in force, Dr. Phil’s highly sought-after shadow methodology was able to accurately predict down to the millisecond when precipitation would fall, how many inches it would total to and even the duration — usually six weeks. Dr. Punxsutawney Phil is a world-famous climatologist and environmental activist who has worked in conjunction with organizations like the United Nations, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and more to create charters and policies to better predict and mitigate the effects of climate change. He is an adjunct professor in the meteorology department at Cornell University. He received his bachelor’s in zoology, his master’s in geology, and his doctorate in atmospheric sciences, all from Pennsylvania State University.
